Zu Begriff und Konzepten Öffentlicher Theologie gibt es einen verzweigten internationalen Diskurs. Die Debatte im deutschen Sprachraum kreist derzeit um die Programmbegriffe »Öffentliche Theologie«, »Öffentlicher Protestantismus« und »Öffentliche Kirche«. Der vorliegende Band bringt die genannten Theorien miteinander ins Gespräch mit dem Ziel, möglichen Engführungen in der Debatte entgegenwirken und offene Fragen zu benennen. Neben den theoretischen Grundlagen im ersten Hauptteil des Bandes liegt im zweiten Hauptteil der Fokus auf der Bedeutung des Diskurses über Öffentliche Theologie für die Diakonie, die gleichermaßen als Akteurin wie als Lernort Öffentlicher Theologie, somit aber auch als eine Gestalt von Öffentlicher Kirche und Öffentlichem Protestantismus zu begreifen ist. Ein dritter Themenblock ist materialdogmatischen und materialethischen Themen Öffentlicher Theologie gewidmet.
