Im ... Aufsatz geht es um die Begriffe Staat und Nation. Nach einem allgemeinen Einblick in die historische Entwicklung wird im besonderen die Idee des Staates bei dem kroatischen pater patriae, Ante Starcevic, thematisiert. Dabei wird der durch die Französische Revolution ausgelöste Prozeß der staatlichen Begründung von Nationen, der für Starcevics Konzept entscheidend war, von der negativistischen Bestimmung des Nationalismus unterschieden. Als besonders aktuell im Licht der gegenwärtigen Diskussion über die Staatsbürgerschaft und nationale Identität werden Starcevics Auffassung des "politischen Volks" und seine Befürwortung der Freiheit des einzelnen hervorgehoben. This article concentrates on the concepts of state and nation. Following an overview of their historical development, the idea of state is examined in Ante Starcevic, the Croatian Pater Patriae. Here the process of a state founded nation as conceived bei the French Revolution, which was of crucial significance for Starcevic's concept, is differentiated from the negative determination of nationalism. The relevance of Starcevic's understanding of the "political people" and his insistence on the freedom of the individual is emphasised in the light of contemporary discussion on state and national identity.
