Content: Of the new Class 130 Corvette boat type a total of five vessels will be delivered in the years 2007 and 2008 which will then constitute a key component of the Bundeswehr intervention forces. To this end, the overall design with its systems presently in the process of realization as well as the reserves of space and weight for retrofitting and upgrading measures offers an excellent potential. The Class 130 Corvette engages coastal targets coming from the high seas and it is optimized for warfare in the immediate and deeply indented coastal area. For the purpose of securing its own freedom of operation and for the support of combined inter-service operations it will also get a shore bombardment capability (naval gunfire support system). With the Class 130 Corvette the Navy is going to be equipped with an ultramodern and technologically sophisticated weapon system which will enable it to make a decisive contribution to international alliance commitments. The importance of national naval construction projects for the innovation capability in Germany and the safeguarding of qualified jobs in the German shipbuilding and supply industry should not be disregarded either.
