In 18th Century Pennsylvania German settler founded a radical pietistic anabaptis t communit with monastic structures . Following the charismatic leader of the group - Konrad Beissel - his adherents made strong efforts to give the children of community and neighbourhood a Christian Education as well as a regular school education . However , they also founded 'schools ' for adults with the aim of furthering their skills an serving the good of god on earth. For instance , they kept a singing and a writing school where monk and nuns managed t shape their own artistic style s whi h became famous beyond the boundaries of Pennsylvania. This article gives an introduction to the different institutions of education in Ephrata and the educational ideas behind them .
