The disengagement crisis from Gaza Strip was a double crisis: Relating to the State and relating to religious belief. The crisis towards the State - The religious Zionist public believed that the State of Israel is "the foundation of the throne of the world". The second crisis is: The crisis towards God who "enabled" this withdrawal plan to succeed, although the religious Zionist public considered the Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip to be the fulfillment of messianic hopes, i.e. the possession of the whole land of Israel, including the Gaza Strip. The research question was: How this religious Zionist public has restored its faithful conception of God and the State. Research theory: I chose the theory of cognitive dissonance, developed by Leon Festinger and his colleagues in "When Prophecy Fails" (1956). This theory in social psychology tries to explain — based on empirical research — how religious groups cope with the failure and disappointment of their religious (prophetical, apocalyptical, messianic, eschatological, new age) expectations concerning future events which don't come true.
