Malgré le nombre croissant et la vigueur des études féministes, on manque aujourd’hui d’études véritablement historiques sur la question des femmes dans l’Antiquité. La démarche proposée ici s’appuie sur une approche historique et comparative des sources apportant des éléments sur la place des femmes aux deux premiers siècles. L’objectif est d’abord de discerner, par l’analyse de la littérature juridique romaine, judéenne et rabbinique dans ses différents supports, les points d’appui et les fondements de la pensée chrétienne ancienne sur la question du statut des femmes dans la société. L’étude se termine par une présentation commentée des sources chrétiennes comportant des indications sur la place, les titres et les fonctions occupés par des femmes au sein des communautés chrétiennes. Ainsi, le statut juridique des femmes propre au milieu chrétien ne constitue certainement pas un critère discriminant les autres communautés des sociétés antiques du monde romain. En effet, la question majeure de la tutelle des femmes a sans aucun doute poussé certaines d’entre elles à vouloir entrer dans la nation israélite, sans pour autant les amener spécifiquement vers les communautés messianiques. On peut cependant proposer comme piste de réflexion concernant la présence apparemment importante de femmes dans les communautés chrétiennes, la prise en compte par les premiers chrétiens des questions sociales touchant particulièrement les femmes. Tout en cohabitant avec les groupes environnants, dont même certains de leurs membres sont issus, les communautés chrétiennes semblent avoir proposé une « alternative » à certains éléments de nature sociétale, en particulier dans le domaine familial

Despite the growing number and strength of feminist studies, historical studies on the issue of women in Antiquity are really lacking nowadays. The approach proposed here is based on a historical and comparative reading of sources which bring elements on the place of women in the first two centuries. First of all, we try to distinguish, by the analysis of the roman, judaean and rabbinic legal literature, the points of inspiration and the bases of the Christian writers’thought on the question of the status of women in society. Lastly, we propose a argued presentation of the Christian sources which give indications on the place, titles and functions occupied by women in the Christian communities. Thus, the legal status of women, belonging to the Christian milieu, is certainly not a criteria which discriminate the other communities existing in the Roman empire. Indeed, the major question of the guardianship, with no doubt incited women to enter the Judaean nation, but not specifically the Messianic communities. However, with regard to the important presence of women in the Christian communities, it is possible to consider, as an explanation, the fact that the first Christians take into account the social questions, concerning particularly the women. While cohabiting with the surrounding groups, from which even some of their members come from, the christian communities seem to have proposed an "alternative" to certain elements of societal nature, especially concerning the family domain
