Le Lycée de Galatasaray est créé à Istanbul en 1868, dans un élan de réformes de modernisation de l'Empire ottoman avec la contribution de la France, notamment de Victor Duruy. Dans cette thèse la genèse et le fonctionnement de cet établissement, depuis sa création jusqu'aux premières armées de la République turque, sont conduits dans un premier temps en exposant la création et l'évolution du Lycée en rapport à son environnement politique et social et en second, en décrivant ses différents aspects à partir d'une analyse sociologique : l'organisation et le contenu de l'enseignement, la pédagogie, l'environnement humain et matériel, les activités culturelles et sportives. Les deux derniers chapitres reconstituent l'évolution des carrières scolaires et professionnelles des anciens élèves afín de montrer leur impact dans la société turque et dans les pays voisins, notamment balkaniques. La thèse et complétée par 100 pages d'annexes iconographiques et bibliographiques

Galatasaray High School was established in Istanbul in 1868, during the wave of modernisation reforms of the Ottoman Empire with the contribution of France especially of Victor Dury. In the context of this study, the birth and the functioning of this school since its foundation until the first years of the Turkish Republic are elucidate with in one hand the explanation of the creation and evolution of the High School with regard to political and social environment of the time, and on the other hand, with the description of its different aspects from a sociological analysis: the organisation and contents of education, the pedagogy, the human and material environment, the cultural and sportive activities. The two last chapters reconstitute the evolution of the scholar and professional careers of the graduates in order to show their impact on the Turkish society and the neighbour countries, especially the Balkan countries. The thesis is completed by 100 pages of iconographical and bibliographical appendices
