Joachim Walther legt nach dreijähriger Forschungsarbeit seine mit Spannung erwartete Gesamtdarstellung über die Kontrolle und Beeinflussung der DDR-Literatur durch das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit vor. Er bietet zu den literarischen Primärtexten nunmehr die konspirativen Kontexte. Dabei behandelt er das Verhältnis von Auftraggeber SED zu Auftragnehmer MfS genauso wie die strukturelle und personelle Entwicklung des zuständigen Sicherheitsapparates. Den Hauptteil seiner Studie bildet die Analyse der Methoden des MfS zur Überwachung, Unterwanderung und gezielten Beeinflussung des literarischen Lebens in der DDR. An ausführlichen Fallbeispielen wird plastisch beschrieben, wie als "feindlich-negativ" eingestufte Schriftsteller operativ bearbeitet wurden und welche Rolle dabei inoffizielle Mitarbeiter spielten. Ein gesonderter Abschnitt beschäftigt sich unter Nennung von Klar- und Decknamen mit diesen "literarischen" IM.
