Der mit ca. 250 farbigen Abbildungen hervorragend ausgestattete Katalog zu einer Ausstellung im Mannheimer Reiss-Museum (Februar - Juni 2001) dokumentiert die oft hohe künstlerische Qualität und Schönheit fürstlicher Grabbeigaben aus dem 5. Jahrhundert n. Chr. Die Exponate (Leihgabe aus 28 europäischen Museen) spiegeln unterschiedliche kulturelle Einflüsse im geographischen Großraum zwischen Gallien und dem Kaukasus zur Zeit der Völkerwanderung, die in wissenschaftlich fundierten Begleittexten dargestellt wird, wobei die vielfältigen Beziehungen zwischen Rom und seinen Gegnern und Verbündeten (Germanen, Hunnen u.a.) hervortreten. Der umfangreiche Katalogteil verzeichnet sämtliche Ausstellungsstücke - Waffen, Schmuck - Pferdegeschirre - aus dem Besitz kriegerischen Adels.
