Johann Heinrich Loewe (1808-1892) wirkte ab 1838 als Supplent und von 1839 bis 1851 als Professor für Philosophie in Salzburg. Danach wurde er zum Professor für Philosophie an der Universität seiner Geburtsstadt Prag ernannt. In Salzburg war Loewe maßgeblich an der Errichtung des Mozartdenkmals beteiligt und hielt auch die Festrede bei der Enthüllung dieses Denkmals im Jahre 1842. Seine Tochter Sophie stellte auf der Grundlage von Briefen die Lebensgeschichte ihres Vaters dar. Das Manuskript dieser Biographie landete auf dem Umweg über den Bolzano-Forscher Eduard Winter am Bolzano-Winter-Archiv der Universität Salzburg, womit ein kleiner Teil Salzburger Geschichte wieder nach Salzburg zurückgekehrt ist
