Unter den Zeitgenossen sorgten sie europaweit für Aufsehen, die Visionen und Bauwerke, mit denen die Architekten der russischen Avantgarde nach der Oktoberrevolution einen Beitrag zum Aufbau einer Neuen Welt und zur Erziehung eines Neuen Menschen leisten wollten. Der eigenwillige Doppelzylinder, in dem Konstantin Melnikov sein legendäres Wohnstudio und Arbeitsatelier in Moskau unterbrachte, gehört dazu, ebenso Vladimir Schuchovs in ein filigranes Netzwerk aufgelösten Funktürme oder Jakob Tschernichovs konstruktivistische Fabrik "Roter Nagel" in St. Peterburg. Kollektiv- und Kommunewohnhäuser, Arbeiterclubs als soziale Kraftwerke oder die hochrationalisierte Brotfabrikfabriken stehen für die neuen Bautypen, die die Revolution hervorgebracht hatte. Le Corbusier ließ sich auf dem Weg zu "Modulor" und "Wohnmaschine" von Entwurfsideen und Architekturexperimenten der Architektur-Avantgarde in der Sowjetrussland inspirieren, Erich Mendelsohn, Ernst May oder Bruno Taut reisten und arbeiten in die UdSSR. - - Heute gelten viele Avantgardebauten in Russland als denkmalschutzwürdig, noch mehr sind vernachlässigt und gefährdet. Der Petersburger Dialog hat Experten aus Russland und Deutschland eingeladen, um das gemeinsame Erbe der Avantgarde und Strategien der Erhaltung und Erschließung der Moderne in Russland vorzustellen. Die vorliegende ICOMOS Veröffentlichung dokumentiert die Expertenbeiträge und zieht ein Resümee für deutsch-russische Kooperationsprojekte
