Im Sommer 1933 gingen die jüdische Keramikerin Hedwig Grossmann (1902 - 1998) und ihr nichtjüdischer Partner, der Bildhauer Rudi Lehmann (1903 - 1977), nach Palästina. Sie gehörten zu den ersten Bildhauern und Keramikern Israels. Nach Jahren voller Entbehrungen und Enttäuschungen erhielten sie in ihrer neuen Heimat gebührende Anerkennung. Helga Keller hat das Leben von Hedwig Grossmann und Rudi Lehmann anhand von Originaldokumenten aus dem Nachlass der Künstler rekonstruiert. Sie erinnert damit an eine Kunstepoche, die auch im heutigen Israel nahezu vergessen ist: die Zeit, in der Rudi Lehmann und Hedwig Grossmann Kunstpioniere in "Altneuland" waren.
