Im April 1945 stießen russische Soldaten in der Berliner Oranienstraße auf die wahrscheinlich größte Gruppe deutscher Juden, die in der damaligen Reichshauptstadt im Untergrund überlebt hatte: Dr. Arthur Arndt, seine Frau Lina und die Kinder Erich und Ruth, die befreundete Ellen Lewinski und ihre Mutter sowie Bruno Gumpel. Verteilt auf die verschiedensten Verstecke, hatten sie sich zweienhalb Jahre lang seit Januar 1943 verborgen halten können. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Zeitzeugen Ruth Gumpel sowie Ellen und Erich Arndt hat die namhafte amerikanische Journalistin Barbara Lovenheim die Geschichte der siebenköpfigen Gruppe aufgezeichnet.
