Doch als sein Vater in den Krieg zieht besteht er darauf, dass Peter den Fuchs aussetzt und zu seinem Großvater zieht. Doch die beiden verbindet ein so intensives Band, dass sie auch über viele Kilometer Entfernung hinweg spüren, wie es dem anderen geht. Peter reißt aus und macht sich auf den Weg zu Pax. Er verletzt sich schwer, begegnet der Eremitin und Kriegsversehrten Vola und findet in ihr eine Freundin. Am Ende finden sich Peter und Pax und begreifen doch, dass die Zeit gekommen ist, in der jeder sein eigenes Leben führen muss. - Ein von Pennypacker (zuletzt ID-A 17/16) in einer guten Sprache geschriebener, packender Freundschafts-, Tier-, und Antikriegsroman, der von der 1. bis zur letzten Seite in den Bann zieht. Abwechselnd wird aus der Sicht des Fuchses und des Jungen erzählt. Verbunden sind die Erzählstränge durch die Gefühlsebene, die beide verbindet. In den USA hochgelobt, ist das Buch mit den wunderschönen Schwarz-Weiß-Illustrationen auch bei uns für jede Bibliothek ein Gewinn. Gern für alle. [Barbara Grabl]
