Kamel Daoud, Autor des Bestsellers »Der Fall Meursault – eine Gegendarstellung«, lässt sich für eine Nacht im Picasso-Museum einschließen und riskiert einen Blick auf das Verhältnis des großen Malers zur Erotik, zur Kunst und zur Philosophie des Westens. Mit dabei ist Abdellah, ein junger islamistisch geprägter Mann, den Daoud sich ausdenkt und dessen Gefühlswelt angesichts der westlichen Zurschaustellung von Nacktheit und Diesseitsbezogenheit er ebenso beschreibt wie seine eigene. Ausgehend vom Begriff der Nacktheit entwickelt Daoud einen faszinierenden Text über das Kunst- und Selbstverständnis des Westens, aber auch über den Gedanken der »Reinigung der Geschichte« und der kulturellen Konkurrenz in der sogenannten arabischen Welt. Er erklärt, warum das westliche Kulturverständnis ebenso wie das Frauenbild einem fundamentalistisch geprägten Menschen wie dem prototypischen Abdellah als Provokation erscheinen muss. In der Gegenüberstellung dieser Gedankenwelten von Orient und Okzident, eines Orients, der verschleiert und maskiert, und eines Westens, der enthüllt und die Nacktheit feiert, liegt die Stärke dieses literarischen Essays, in dem Daoud aber zugleich auch immer die eigene schöpferische Tätigkeit reflektiert."
