Der Artikel untersucht die Auswirkungen des Brexit auf die Militärpolitik der EU-Staaten. Auswirkungen werden nicht nur direkt für die EU-Staaten, sondern auch indirekt für die NATO-Staaten und für bilaterale Verträge gesehen. Im Gegensatz zum Gemeinsamen Markt werden die Auswirkungen auf die europäische Gemeinsame Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik (GSVP) aus mehreren Gründen aber deutlich geringer eingeschätzt. Negative Folgen werden vielmehr in einer möglicherweise vergifteten Atmosphäre in den gegenseitigen Beziehungen und in einem verringerten politischen Einfluss der Europäischen Union gesehen. Mögliche positive Folgen werden für die NATO und bilaterale Projekte ausgemacht. Eine konzeptionelle Überarbeitung der Verteidigungspolitik der EU-Staaten scheint aber unvermeidlich.
