    Content: Wer zu ergründen sucht, welche diskursiven Vorbedingungen die heutige Unterrepräsentanz von Frauen in der Wissenschaft hat, wage einen Blick in die lange und verschlungene Geschichte der Verbindung von Genus und Genie. Dieser Blick offenbart, welche Begründungsfiguren seit der Antike dazu führten, dass schöpferische Geistigkeit und Weiblichsein lange Zeit als prinzipiell unvereinbar galten und teilweise bis heute gelten. Als Teil einer kritischen Geisteswissenschaftsgeschichte sucht dieser Essay die Hintergrundfolien für einen Ausschluss von Frauen aus der als überzeitlich imaginierten ‚Geniegemeinde‘ zu skizzieren. Zielpunkt ist zu klären, welche Stränge der Geschichte ihrer Nichtintegration in dieselbe auch heute noch spürbare Auswirkungen auf die Stellung von Frauen in der intellektuellen Sphäre und akademischen Arena, der Alma Mater, haben (Scheint das Geschlecht in der heutigen Wissenschaft doch immer noch einen Unterschied zu machen.) Frauen konnten seit den Nullerjahren des 20. Jahrhunderts zwar an der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft partizipieren, universitäre Laufbahnen blieben jedoch noch jahrzehntelang eine Ausnahme. Und nicht zuletzt spiegeln sich einige der diskursiven Gesetzmäßigkeiten früherer Genievorstellungen in rhetorischen Aufwertungsmechanismen im Rahmen aktueller Exzellenzrhetoriken wider.

    Content: Welches Bild der DDR wird der jüngeren Generation in Gesprächen mit Eltern und Großeltern vermittelt? – Dieser Frage, die für die Erinnerungskultur im wieder­vereinigten Deutschland bedeutsam ist, gehen die Autoren dieses Buches nach. Dafür wurden 54 Leitfadeninterviews in 18 ostdeutschen Familien mit jeweils einem Familienmitglied der Kinder-, Eltern- und Großeltern­generation geführt. Die Interview­partner der jüngsten Generation waren 1989/90 noch im Kindes- oder Jugendalter. Die Interviews wurden telefonisch geführt und anschließend schriftlich übertragen (transkribiert) und historisch-kritisch eingeordnet. Die Aussagen der Gesprächspartner sind hier in anonymisierter Form dokumentiert. In der persönlichen Erinnerung der vormaligen Bürgerinnen und Bürger der DDR überlagern sich verschiedene Facetten, welche die von dem Historiker Martin Sabrow vorge­schlagene analytische Unterscheidung zwischen Diktatur-, Arrangement- und Fortschrittsgedächtnis widerspiegeln. Das Mehrgenerationengespräch über die DDR-Vergangenheit wird beherrscht durch Erinne­rungen an die alltägliche Lebenswelt. Auffälligstes Merkmal des Blicks der Älteren zurück in die DDR ist die Beschreibung eines Alltags im mitunter weichgezeichneten Schatten einer Diktatur, wo Privates und Berufliches dominierten und wo trotz des Unterdrückungscharakters des SED-Regimes für Lebensfreude und kleine Fluchten vor dem Zugriff der Politik Raum blieb. Indessen sind Großeltern und Eltern über das Ausmaß der damals notwendigen Anpassung nicht durchwegs einer Meinung, was ihre Glaubwürdigkeit in den Augen der Kinder bzw. Enkel aber nicht massiv beschädigt.

    Content: My main argument here is that the story seen from the perspective of the influential year of 1962 reveals a very different historical context, with a different set of actors and a different trajectory and causalities regarding the human rights breakthrough, from those stories focusing on Western agency in the 1940s and the 1970s. It repositions the history of human rights in significant ways and makes apartheid and racial discrimination more crucial to the human rights story than has hitherto been acknowledged. It is also important to emphasize that the positions and arguments presented by countries from the Global South in these UN debates were richly nuanced. These nuances are important if we are to fully appreciate the dynamics during these years. Tanzania differed significantly from, for instance, Senegal in the way it envisaged the scope and applicability of international human rights law and investigatory measures. Tanzania wanted a sole focus on Southern Africa and not beyond; Senegal had a wider perspective. This should remind us that when we are imagining Africa as a historical-political space, we need to allow for diversity, individual histories and agency, aspects that cannot be adequately captured by labels such as ›The Third World‹, ›Global South‹ or indeed even ›Africa‹.
