    Content: Diese Studie untersucht die Ursachen, das Ausmaß und die Bewältigung der Hungerkrise in Württemberg-Hohenzollern von 1945 bis 1948. Verschärft wurde der Nahrungsmangel durch Maßnahmen der französischen Besatzungsmacht: Sie versorgte zuerst die eigene Armee. Außerdem schottete sie das Land ab, was den Wiederaufbau von Infrastruktur, Wirtschaft und Landwirtschaft erheblich hemmte. In dieser angespannten Versorgungslage führte die extreme Witterung 1946/47 zur Katastrophe. In die Erinnerung ging die Zeit als "Hungerwinter" und "Dürresommer" ein. Neu ist die Fokussierung auf die Bevölkerung und auf die politischen Akteure in der Auseinandersetzung mit den Besatzern. Es wird nach ihren Deutungsmustern, Handlungsoptionen und ihrem Beitrag zur Lösung der Krise und dem Neuaufbau der Gesellschaft gefragt. Carlo Schmid hob die Bedeutung dieser "Zeit zwischen zwei Weltzeiten" hervor und legte dabei den Schwerpunkt gleichermaßen auf die Bewältigung der Not und den demokratischen Transformationsprozess der Gesellschaft nach der NS-Herrschaft
