Content: This paper compares and contrasts the governance and regulation of power pools in England and Wales, Victoria (Australia), Alberta (Canada), and Scandinavia (Norway and Sweden). Governance is the process by which decisions get made, implemented and enforced--it is internal to the pools. In contrast, regulation is how governments review and change the decisions of pools--it is external to the pools. The pools are organized markets for trading in electricity commodities and services. These "new style" power pools are created to maximize competition in generation, to compete on price, and to open to all market participants. Section I describes four basic models of power pool governance and the implementation issues associated with each model. Section II gives an overview of the similarities and differences among the four pools and how they affect governance. Section III examines how each pool has dealt with a number of basic governance decision. Section IV looks at how the pools monitor the markets that they have created. Section V describes different ways in which regulators and other government institutions control pools and how this control is exercised. Section VI presents some conclusions and observations

Content: The Yanoama are indigenous people straddling the border between extreme southeastern Venezuela and upper northwestern Brazil. This file consists of eleven documents that concentrate on specific Yanoama villages or subgroups and covers the time period from approximately 1950 to 1987. The monograph by Shuster is on the Waica and contains a sociological analysis of inter- and intra-community relations. The two documents by Barker, an American Protestant missionary, are also on the Waica. The main subject of the article by Layrisse is blood groups among the Waica. Some comparative information is included. Ethnographic information on material culture, religion, and political structure of the Surara and Pakidai is contained in the document by Becher. The Yanoama language of the Surara and Pakidai is the subject of the document by Rodrigues. The chapter from Wilbert's book is on the Sanema primarily, with information on other Venezuelan Indians included as well. The two monographs by Chagnon are general ethnographies of communities especially in Venezuela with comparative data from communities in Brazil. Early and Peters discuss population dynamics of the Mucajai Yanoama in Brazil from the late 1950s to 1987

Content: The Klamath are Native Americans living in southwestern Oregon. This file consists of 11 documents. The focus of the literature is on tribal origins, traditional culture, social change, and mythology. The earliest by Gatschet is based on field work carried out in 1877 and includes information on geography, settlements, folklore, language, and mythology. Spier produced a "memory ethnography" based on informant recollections of ca. 1860 tribal life. He also compared Klamath cultural traits with those of neighboring groups in order to establish Klamath origins and affiliations. Stern wrote about the history, culture, and politics of the Klamath reservation and a study of Klamath myths and their narration. Barker also recorded Klamath mythology and life histories. Other articles in the file include studies of Klamath childhood and socialization (Pearsall), material culture (Barrett), personality and acculturation (Clifton and Levine), comparative religion (Spencer), and songs and their interpretation (Weaver)
