we verify the source of the facts investigated using Henri Hubert's and Marcel Mauss' texts, which highlight their studies on criminology practice and sacrifice. The anthropologists' perspectives on these points are compared to those of sigmund freud. We have studied the signifying chain of the word "favela", in its relation to the brazilian state. This approach brings us to portuguese sebastianism and the old testament, as sources for brazilian working-class culture. On the other hand, research on brazilian identity as a state indicates an inquisitorial culture. We use jacques lacan's analysis of christianity and verify the relevance of our hypothesis using historical facts — deeply inspired by freudian research on the origins of the jewish religion and that of Denis Duclos on the origins of anti-semitism demonstrating that brazilian police-related violence is the result of a feeling of guilt originating from the christianization of europe and which has been transmitted across the centuries
