Soziale Unterschiede in der Gesundheit und Lebenserwartung sind ein zentrales Thema von Public Health. Mittlerweile belegen zahlreiche Studien, dass sozial benachteiligte Bevölkerungsgruppen häufiger von chronischen Krankheiten und Beschwerden betroffen sind, ihre eigene Gesundheit schlechter einschätzen und zu einem größeren Anteil vorzeitig sterben als die Angehörigen sozial besser gestellter Bevölkerungsgruppen. Der neue RKI-Bericht "Gesundheitliche Ungleichheit in verschiedenen Lebensphasen" fasst den aktuellen Forschungs- und Erkenntnisstand zusammen und ergänzt eine lebensphasenspezifische Betrachtung der gesundheitlichen Ungleichheit. Teile des Berichts sind im neuen, fünften Armuts- und Reichtumsbericht der Bundesregierung enthalten, zu dem die RKI-Wissenschaftler regelmäßig das Thema "Armut und Gesundheit" beitragen.
