Realismus des Kapitals zeigt die Aktualität marxistischer Literaturtheorie im Zeitalter der Globalisierung. Anhand von Gegenwartsliteratur und Populärkultur legt diese Untersuchung, die Literaturwissenschaft mit sozialwissenschaftlichen, ökonomiekritischen und psychoanalytischen Ansätzen verbindet, dar, dass Kultur in der Gegenwart in die kapitalistische Produktion integriert ist. Dabei vollzieht Schuller die historische Genese dieses Zustands und den Zusammenhang von Avantgardebewegungen, 1968 und dem Neoliberalismus nach und arbeitet kritisch die Geschichte marxistischer Literaturtheorie auf. Sein Projekt gründet auf den theoretischen Schriften Brechts, bezieht aber auch aktuelle Theoriedebatten, etwa um Mark Fishers Konzept des kapitalistischen Realismus, mit ein. Damit stellt Schuller der aktuellen Theoriemüdigkeit der Geisteswissenschaften einen neuen Begriff von Kultur als Moment des globalisierten Kapitalismus entgegen.
