Dass im Grand Prix d’Eurovision de la Chanson 1982 „ausgerechnet eine deutschsprachige Interpretin mit einem Friedenslied bei den europäischen Nachbarn punktete“, kann nur im Rückblick verwundern. Im Gegenteil, es war ein professionell geplanter Zufall, dass der Produzent und Komponist Ralph Siegel und der Autor Bernd Meinunger mit „Ein bißchen Frieden“ – vorgetragen von Nicole – Erfolg hatten. Das Lied passte offenbar perfekt in die Zeit: Anfang der 1980er-Jahre gehörte „Frieden“ nicht allein in der Bundesrepublik zu den politisch und emotional besonders stark aufgeladenen Begriffen. Die Friedensbewegung mit ihren Protesten gegen den NATO-Doppelbeschluss war omnipräsent. Zudem war Großbritannien, das Gastgeberland des Grand Prix, just im April 1982 in einen „heißen“ Krieg verwickelt (dies hatten Siegel und Meinunger natürlich nicht vorausahnen können). Am Tag nach der Austragung des Wettbewerbs sollte der erste britische Flottenverband im Südatlantik eintreffen, um die kurz zuvor von Argentinien besetzten Falklandinseln zurückzuerobern. Nicole gewann daher auch das sonst deutschen Schlagern gegenüber wenig aufgeschlossene britische Publikum und hielt sich dort (mit der englischen Fassung) 2 Wochen an der Spitze der Charts. Völlig unangefochten holte sie mit 161 von 204 Punkten den Sieg und damit – nach 27 Jahren Grand Prix – diesen Preis zum ersten Mal „für Deutschland“.
