"Ja, wir sind die neuen Wahrsager", bestätigt Humangenetiker Olaf Rieß. Der Wissenschaftler stellt durch Erbgut-Untersuchungen fest, ob und wann bestimmte Krankheiten bei seinen Patienten ausbrechen. Wie lebt man mit solch einem Orakel? Arved Pusch, Maler in Berlin, leidet an Chorea Huntington - er wird seine geistigen und körperlichen Fähigkeiten verlieren. Diese Krankheit, "Veitstanz" genannt, kann erst in zwanzig Jahren ausbrechen. Deshalb fragt Pusch: "Was bringt solch eine Prophezeiung einem (noch) gesunden Menschen?" Risikopersonen, die Gewißheit über ihr Schicksal haben wollen, müssen eine psychologische Begleitung akzeptieren und sich ein halbes Jahr lang darauf vorbereiten, mit dem Testergebnis fertig zu werden. Marianne Riedel zeigt in diesem Report eine weitere Dimension: Im Londoner Hammersmith-Hospital wird dem Embryo schon im Acht-Zellen-Stadium eine Zelle entnommen, um eventuelle Erbschäden prognostizieren zu können. Riedel: "Da ist man dann sehr schnell bei dem ethischen Problem: Sollen Frauen ein Kind zur Welt bringen, das einmal an Chorea Huntington erkranken wird?" Arved Pusch sagt: "Wenn diese Kinder jetzt erst gar nicht geboren werden, finde ich das schlimm."
