Abstract: Fourier‐space crystallography gives a simple unified account of extinctions in elastic scattering from periodic or aperiodic crystals, based entirely on three‐dimensional point group symmetry. That account, which does not rely on viewing an aperiodic crystal as a three‐dimensional slice of a higher‐dimensional periodic crystal, is summarized and explained.
