In der Schule sollen alle Kinder und Jugendliche die Kompetenzen erwerben, die sie benötigen, um selbstbestimmt am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilhaben zu können. Dabei ist es notwendig im Unterricht auf die individuellen Lernvoraussetzungen der Schüler:innen zu reagieren, damit sie optimal beim Lernen unterstützt werden können. Häufig wird in diesem Zusammenhang vom „individualisierten Unterricht“ gesprochen, der sich dadurch auszeichnen, dass das Lernangebot bestmöglich an die einzelnen Schüler:innen angepasst wird. Eine Individualisierung des Unterrichts kann jedoch bedeuten, dass die Schüler:innen nur noch an ihren eigenen Aufgaben arbeiten, ohne sich miteinander auszutauschen. Von einigen Autor:innen wurde daher die Befürchtung geäußert, dass die Individualisierung des Unterrichts zu einer Vereinzelung im Unterricht führt und die Lerngruppe als Gemeinschaft kaum noch eine Rolle spielt. Schule soll neben fachlichen Kompetenzen jedoch auch soziale Werte und Normen vermitteln, die zu einer gesellschaftlichen Integration beitragen ...
