Kooperationen in Unternehmen sind maßgeblich an Kommunikationsprozesse gekoppelt. Soziale Netzwerke, eine nicht an die formale Organisation gebundene Form interner und externer Vernetzung, bieten eine potenzielle Basis zur Zusammenarbeit. Neue Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien wie E-Mail haben sich in den vergangenen Jahren zu unentbehrlichen Koordinations- und Kommunikationsinstrumenten - insbesondere auch in Teamarbeitsprozessen - entwickelt. Anhand einer Strukturanalyse der elektronischen Kommunikation von vier Arbeitsteams in einem IT-Unternehmen untersucht Gerit Götzenbrucker die Potenziale computergestützter sozialer Netzwerke. Sie zeigt, dass sich im elektronischen Raum alternative Kommunikationskulturen entwickeln und dass sich daraus Machtverschiebungen ergeben. Es wird außerdem deutlich, dass technisch vermittelte Kommunikation Sozialbeziehungen verändert bzw. kreiert, die wiederum auf die konkreten Ausprägungen des Mediums zurückwirken
